Chinqua Penn Wines
Releases three new wines for 2008
On April 25, three new Chinqua Penn
Vineyards wines will be available for tasting and sales.
All wines are made from locally grown grapes:
- Chinqua Penn 2007
Chardonel - Nice classic, white grape grown
just over the county line at Grove Vineyards. This gives
Chinqua Penn a second dry, white wine.
- Chinqua Penn 2005
Cabernet Sauvignon - Medal winner at the NC
Wine Competition and the Blue Ridge Food and Wine Festival.
Big, barrel aged red. Grapes grown on local vineyard off
Hwy 87.
- Chinqua Penn 2007
Muscadine Blush - The 2006 was an award winner
and quickly sold out last year. Might be even better this
year. Contains grapes from the Chinqua Penn Estate.
To celebrate this release, at Chinqua
Penn on Friday, April 25th from 5pm - 7pm we'll be offering
free tastings of these three wines, along with light hors
d'œuvres and 10% off all wine purchases. Come help us
celebrate and be one of the first to taste these new wines.
The growing of grapes and
making of wine have played a large part in Chinqua Penn’s history
throughout the years. From the muscadine grape arbor to the adjoining NC
State Research Vineyard, grapes have been grown at the
Plantation since
the early 1900’s. The plantation itself has not one, but two wine
cellars; one in the house itself and the other in the main entrance area
of the plantation.
The tradition continues at the Chinqua Penn Wine Tasting Room. The
Tasting Room is located adjacent to the gift shop in the main entrance
area. Wines made from local grapes are available for tasting and
purchase. You are invited to enjoy your wine in the
wine room or on the adjoining outdoor patio.

CHINQUA PENN WINES WIN TOP HONORS AT THE
2007
MID-ATLANTIC
SOUTHEASTERN WINE COMPETITION
Chinqua Penn Plantation and Vineyards, 2138 Wentworth Street,
Reidsville, is pleased to announce that it received top honors for three
wines in the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Southeastern Wine Competition held August
25 & 26. Judges selected the Chinqua Penn wines from hundreds of wines
submitted from six states.
The estate grown Muscadine Blush dessert wine won the silver medal.
Other winners were the 2006 Lenox Castle Red, a blend of Syrah and
Cabernet Franc and the 2006 Niagara. All of the grapes were grown
locally in Rockingham County. Winemaker Max Lloyd noted, "This was our
first wine contest and our first vintage. So it was nice to get
recognition for these fine wines."
The Chinqua Penn Wine Tasting Room is open Wednesday through Saturday
from noon until 5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 – 5 p.m. The tasting includes
samples of six Chinqua Penn wines and a commemorative wine glass. Wine
is also sold by the glass or the bottle and can be enjoyed on the
outdoor patio as well as inside the wine room. The wine tasting is $5
and is available with or without tours of the mansion and/or grounds.
