There is always something new to explore or discover at Chinqua Penn, but this Spring Season we are pleased to offer a totally new tour offering.
Tour Lasts Through April Only
Saturdays at 11 am and 2 pm
Sundays at 2 pm.
Come join us for a special behind the scenes tile tour of both the inside and out of this magnificent home, where you have a chance to explore the history and art in some rarely seen areas of Chinqua Penn Plantation.
Jeff and Betsy Penn’s 1920’s displays of tile work at Chinqua Penn are wide ranging from the whimsical and exotic to the practical and aesthetic. While Jeff was building his mansion, he advised contractors that he personally would be selecting tiles for the home. During his travels in Europe he spoke of his plans, commenting:
“thro the front door you gaze and want to go to this peaceful place---its floor and walls are made of clean, cool, colorful tile.”
The Penn’s left behind an exception record of turn of the century decorating. Its tile work is still primarily in its original location throughout Chinqua Penn.
Available for a limited time during April 2009 Spring Revival Season, the tour will last approximately 1 ½ hours and covers entirely new material throughout the house as well as the pagoda and items long stored in basement. Rates for this special tour are $30 adult; $25 Senior/Student/Military; $20 youth (6 – 16).
Tour size is limited due to the close nature of some of the areas on the tour. Advance tickets are available on-line at chinquapenn.com or by calling 336-349-4576.
Tour times in April are each Saturday at 11 am and 2 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
Group tours are available by appointment.
